Frequency of hypersensitiveness to particular allergens in children with atopic dermatitis

A total of 100 children aged 0 to 14 years with atopic dermatitis were examined. Most of them were boys, which might indicate a maternal type of inheritance. 89 patients had symptoms of respiratory allergy (hypersensitivity to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and different pollens) and 11 patients were without symptoms of respiratory allergy; 25 patients had milk and egg hypersensitivity. 79 patients were breast - fed for 6 months, 11 patients for 12 months and 18 were not breast-fed. 89 patients had elevated total IgE. Most patients (84 children) had elevated specific IgE to inhalative allergens (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, pollens, class 3) and some patients (14 children) to nutritive allergens (milk, egg).
