Cryptorchidism and dyslalia – association or coincidence
Cryptorchidism is a frequent congenital anomaly easily detected by routine systematic examination of children. The cause is ascribed to numerous etiological factors. It is commonly found associated with different genetic diseases. The aim of the paper is to present the association between cryptorchism and dyslalia. A group of 2,630 boys were examined who live in the Vinkovci region and attend elementary school. The prevalence of cryptorchidism and the association with dyslalia were observed. Cryptorchidism was found in 4.45% of the boys. It was mostly an isolated finding (59.83%), whereas dyslalia was found in 28.21% of the boys with cryptorchidism (p<0.05). Anomalies of refraction and innocent heart murmur were associated with cryptorchidism (p<0.05). Boys with impaired speech should undergo careful genitalia examination, looking for cryptorchidism. The ultimate goal is early revelation and treatment of this anomaly. Keywords: CRYPTORCHIDISM – complications; SPEECH DISORDERS - complications
