Immunization rate in children with cystic fibrosis

One of the basic therapeutic goals in the treatment of lung disease in cystic fibrosis is preventing other infections and colonization with P. aeruginosa. Many strategies have been introduced so far. Among them, active immunization against bacterial and viral infections has an important role. We are presenting immunization data on 30 CF children, i.e. about 40% of all CF patients recognized in Croatia. The results show a good immunization rate for the obligatory vaccines from the National Vaccination Program, although with a delay regarding the age when immunization started. A high rate was also observed for H. infulenzae vaccine. Furthermore, some vaccines of special interest for CF patients are discussed. We hope to raise the general sensibility for the disease in our country, where the number of recognized CF patients is more the reflection of the general attitude regarding CF, than the real incidence of the disease.
