Waterhouse – Friderichsen syndrome caused by group a beta-Haemolytic Streptococcus

The case is reported of an otherwise healthy girl who died after 21 hours of a disease corresponding to Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome. The blood and cerebrospinal fluid culture revealed group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus, suggesting that this microorganism can cause Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome in immunocompetent persons.
