Infectious mononucleosis - clinical characteristics and importance of early diagnosis

Forty children with the syndrome of infectious mononucleosis, 3-7 years old were examined. They were all hospitalized at the University Hospital for Infectious Diseases during the last year. The frequency of symptoms and laboratory findings characteristic for infectious mononucleosis were examined. In most cases the clinical manifestations were pharyngitis and enlargement of lymphe nodes and spleen (in 80%). Nasal speech was present in 90% of children, which is rarely mentioned in literature.
