The possibilities of treating tics with gamma globulins

Tics are a relatively common movement disorder in children. Although the causes are unclear, tics have been associated with various psychoemotional and organic disorders. Over the last several years tics in certain genetically predisposed children have been related, at the level of basal ganglia, to autoimmune disorders caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcal infections. Therefore, tics have been referred to as pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococci (PANDAS). Based on recent etiologic research, it can be concluded that the use of gamma globulins in the management of tics might result in complete healing in certain patients.
