Inspiratory stridor as the first symptom of a metal foreign body in a child’s oesophagus– a removal possibility performed by combining the magill forceps technique and the foley catheter

Foreign bodies in the oesophagus are most common while children are between 2 and 7 years old. Foreign bodies can be various objects that a child swallows intentionally or unintentionally. In most cases they are toy parts and coins, and on some occasions food. This article shows symptoms, diagnostics, ways of treatment and possible complications of the most common foreign bodies in a child's oesophagus. We showed the case of a 15-month-old girl's case, whose first symptom, an inspiratory stridor, was a consequence of two parallel coins in the upper part of the oesophagus. We described the method for removal of the foreign body from the oesophagus by combining the Magill forceps technique and a Foley catheter.
