Tracheal stenosis caused by tracheal webs

Tracheal stenosis, particulary mucous membrane webs, is a rare inborn tracheal anomaly. Webs are usually located in the subglotic area or close to the carina. Most patients with tracheal stenosis may have inspiratory stridor and respiratory distress varying extents immediately after birth. The patient presented, a one-year old boy, had severe respiratory distress immediately after birth. In the newborn period the patient had persistent inspiratory dyspnea, which worsened during upper respiratory infection, crying or effort. Diagnosis was made by endoscopic evaluation (tracheogram and videorecording were also made) at the age of one year. Succesful surgical management (CO2-laser resection) was carried out without complications, and the child is now troublefree.
